The separation process takes place on a selectively permeable layer consisting of an organic semi-permeable membrane. .NF membranes separate metals, hardness-causing ions and other divalent ions from water, while allowing monovalent ions such as sodium and chlorides to pass through the membrane. It can be used for various purposes such as groundwater, surface water, cooling towers or wastewater recovery.
